Hi Guys

Please can you help me select the correct shaft for my Driver.

My SS is 95MPH
Ball Speed is 144
total distance 148

problem is my launch angle is low because I have a negative angle of attack i.e. -6 degrees therefore launching at 8 degrees with 11.5 degree club face
I am therefore losing distance as my flight is too low i.e. 23 yards high.

Any feed back most welcome

Regards,
Harv

In your case, it's a very difficult fit in terms of getting the right balance of launch and spin obviously due to your attack angle. Due you know what your spin rates are like with that 8* launch and also what driver setup would that be with?

Spend the money on getting your driver in the right position to create a better angle of attack...Good shafts don't help flawed launch angles. If I would have spent the amount of money on fixing my swing, rather than trying different expensive shafts to compensate for my flaws, I would have saved a lot of money!! Trust me

i have just completed 6 months of lessons flattening out my swingfrom an over the top inconsistant swipe across the ball to an inside on plane impact position (Jim Hardy one plane) so happy with the swing just not the angle of attack

Without changing the angle of attack on your swing everything you do is just going to fight your swing. -6 degree attack angle and only 2800 spin is pretty darn good for an 8* launch. If you dont plan on changing the swing that is pretty darn ideal launch and spin. More loft (ie a 3wd loft and a super low spin shaft is about all you can do if.) If you are trying to reach the 12-14 launch 2400 spin benchmark work on the swing first, then get fit.

Sounds like a perfect match, especially if he can improve that AoA number. (Maybe down to -1 or -2 at least)

I agree with the xcon 5. I would get a regular flex and see how the spin numbers look.

Thanks guys for the suggestions on getting the Matrix X-con 5 reg my next question is I have fitted a Prolauch 65 blue Reg and I am getting a nice flight and increased my ball speed up to 155MPH with total distance 250 yds
The price of this shaft was £70. I see that a Matrix Xcon 5 is a lot more at £250 so is it worth the investment what will it deliver that a cheaper shaft like PL blue 65 will not?

You might be able to hit an S in an X-Con5.

It's not boardy at all.

Am I wasting my time buying a made for shaft or will the charateristics be very simular?

The XCON-5 shafts in TaylorMade graphics are the same specs as the aftermarket shafts. The only difference is the graphics. TaylorMade rarely changes the specs on high-end shafts and usually doesn't go the "made for" direction, even in the retail market. Many of the high-end shafts are "tour only" versions where they'll install their graphics on the shafts for marketing purposes. There are exceptions, i.e. retail Matrix XCON-4.8 in earlier model non-TP Burner drivers and fairway woods.

Purchasing a high-end shaft with TaylorMade OEM graphics is a good cheaper way to go if you don't mind the graphics. I'm fine with it :pimp:

Two or three years ago, the X-Con 5 had just about the fastest ball speed of any shaft + high launch, moderate spin, and great feel.

For really big swingers, it got the ball too high---but for moderate speed players, it offered extra distance.

I don't mean to hi-jack your thread but, you just made my day. I just spent $110 on the Matrix Ozik HD6 pulled from an Rocket Ballz RBZ Driver and I put it in my Tour Issue R9 460 head. Instead of an aftermarket Matrix Ozik HD6 for $300 or so.

Thanks! I'm in the process of making some swing changes so the jury is still out. I also have a Blue Board that I'm testing with it.
