I actually read a summary in Golf Digest and it was about a battle of wills, old habits, and Tiger's left knee.

Tex,
I just read the article as well. I will not buy the book, but this story is almost "Pat Tillman" in nature. The depth of detail makes one wonder. I have never cared for Micelli and his reporting, and it has nothing to do with golf, but I still think his question is a legitimate one. Like it or not that is what the media gets paid to do by their employers. Pat Tillman was given the same questions about his military interest apart from football.

I don't know Sully, how is a question about something Tiger "thought' about doing many years ago relevant at a PGA
Tour golf tournament press conference? Do you really believe Miceli would have asked that question if that factoid
wasn't in Haney's book? I highly doubt it. Just a complete lack of respect for Tiger wishes and I don't blame Tiger for
cracking a wry smile and saying sarcastically "you're a real beauty, have a nice day." Pretty mild actually. I mean, the
book isn't even out yet and they haven't read it.

Tillman turned down a $3.6 million dollar contract from the Cardinals and actually ENLISTED in the Army (Along with
his brother Kevin). Big difference compared to Tiger's situation IMO. I don't think there's any doubt Miceli had an agenda
and he got what he wanted. Maybe even with the blessing of his fellow GC colleague Hank Haney. Headlines for Miceli
and more exposure for the book.

What issue of GD was that article in?

Petter,
It is the current Master's issue of Golf Digest that just arrived. It is pretty enlightening and if true is a lot of information that I was not previously aware of or had even a notion about. And, I'm not sure it was many years ago. Read the article and see what you think. You are right it is not relevant to golf. Tilman's enlisting wasn't relevant to football either, but that was a major story.

Tiger played a lot of golf at the Los Alamitos Naval course right next to my house in So Cal. The military was a huge part of Earl's life, and I fully believe Tiger has a huge connection as a result. It is evident he truly misses his father, and involvement (whatever that means) in the military would have been a tribute to his father.

Sully,

I don't think Miceli gives a damn about Tiger's interest in being a Navy Seal. It was something from the book and that's what
he wanted to pester Tiger with, shamelessly ignoring his wishes not to discuss references to the book. If Tiger would have
enlisted in the Navy and he was about to quit the tour, then it would be fair game to ask about it. That's the point I made with
Tilman, asking him about the Army was a fair question because he enlisted and was leaving football.

I'll get the issue and read the article. My subscription to GD ran out so I'm headed to Walgreens.

Pete,
Like you, I do believe Miceli is all about his own self promotion. I have never cared for the guy, and think most of his comments offer very little insight.

I still believe it is a legit question, and I would like to know the depth of Tiger's thoughts.
