Jim Furyk has been playing a C-taper R+ flex in his irons.

Furyk is indeed playing R+ flex in his irons, but they are actually KBS Tour and not the C-Taper models.

Now that's a high launching set of irons I'd bet.

You ain't kidding!!! I play KBS Tour X in the same irons as Furyk and they go plenty high already. I can't imagine what the ball flight is like with R+.

I love the feel of the KBS Tour shaft, but that high flight just got too high and distance robbing for my swing.

The C-taper made me a club longer, lower and with less spin, for the Texas wind, but you can't hit the C-Tapers thin at all----you lose a 1/2 club of distance if you do.

I figure that the KBS Tours are better for pickers and the C-tapers are better for diggers with some clubhead speed.

Cut it out Tex...when was the last time you hit a ball thin? I, on the other hand, hit balls thin all the time, so I can confirm this finding!!

 When you start to get older, bad things can happen!

Sometimes, when trying to shallow it out for a lower trajectory, unwanted results may occur if I don't pay attention. So, I do pay more attention when hitting low punches with C-Tapers.

This brings to mind the importance of exact ball position on all shots---at least for me.

I was a picker in my former life as a Jimmy Ballard advocate. The main miss with a Ballard, lateral swing is a thin shot---especially when the ball creeps forward in the stance.

With a more rotary and vertical action, fat shots are more likely if you get the ball too far forward.

In my golfing life I've gone from being a 2 post LtoR ,diver/digger; to a RtoL,slider/picker; and finally to a 1 post LtoR,digger.

Yes, the C-Tapers are S(6.0), S+(6.5), and X(7.0).

Most players think that the C-Tapers feel slightly stiffer than the KBS Tour shafts.....but may play similarly. I think it may depend on if you are a digger or sweeper.

Thanks Tex...but I was actually wanting to confirm the kbs tour custom series. I can find the tour flexes, but the custom series doesn't carry the sub-flexes, so I wanted to confirm the stiff.

The KBS website is a little confusing on the custom flexes, but if you go to the page that gives the specs of the KBS Tour you can hit the "customize" link and it takes you to the Custom page. The Customs are just cosmetically enhanced KBS Tours.

Also, to correct some info on the flexes, with info from the KBS website...

KBS C-Taper flexes are: R+ = 5.8, S = 6.3, S+ = 6.8, X = 7.3

KBS Tour flexes are: R+ = 5.6, S = 6.1, S+ = 6.6, X = 7.1

Hope this helps, GV

Thanks, Tex. In the past I probably put too much credence in the importance of FCM, but Marcus has convinced me that the FCM is just one of many factors in fitting. More attention needs to be paid to bend profiles, feel, performance, etc, etc, and Marcus is the man with the big knowledge base there.
