Topics I've Started

  1. Fitting this past weekend

    Posted 3 Jun 2013

Got on trackman for a driver fitting this past weekend. didn't really NEED to get fitted but whatever, just wanted to go back and see what my numbers were with this setup and see if anything beat it.

Currently playing an R11S V2 8* head. Either Fubuki Alpha 70X or Devotion 7 Stiff tipped. I've been playing the devotion for the past 8 weeks as I can turn it over a little easier and I like the look of it :) LMAO

After warming up I hit a few with the gamer- spinny. 32-3400 which really surprised me but you just can't argue with Trackman. The fitter, who I've seen numerous times over the last couple of years and knows me enough to know I'm not afraid of much hands me a club. I saw it was the Devotion 75X and looked like the Cobra Amp head since it was bright candy blue... He asked what I thought of the head to which my reply was "I'm not afraid to call a little attention to myself on the course." It wasn't the Cobra though, it was the Razor Extreme. I haven't hit this club yet, plus being a TM guy I hadn't really been interested but it felt pretty good. I also hit a black Extreme with DI 75X. Both of these clubs seemed to be pretty good- ~2500 spin, 11-13* launch. sea level 270ish carry 300 total, swing speed 112-117.

Interesting was that the DI felt so much lighter and faster to swing but I could only get it from 112-113. The Devotion was 115 consistently. Then I realized the DI played 44 and the devotion 45. total distance was similar between the two and dispersion was close too, once I got the swing path going the right way. I didn't get a chance to hit these shafts in the R1 since he didn't have them with the right tip but he said the R1 head and the Razor Extreme were pretty similar and either one would work for me. So now I'm keeping my eyes on the BST looking for that DI or Devotion.

    Shafts I hit-
Devotion 75X- recommended to play at 44.5" and tip it 1/2"
DI 75X- could also play this shaft at 44.5" tipped 1/2"
Tour Spec 7.2- This shaft gave good numbers but felt really heavy.
Ahina 75X- never have hit this shaft well. 3000+ spin
Oban Revenge 85 Stiff- too lose and spinny- 3300+
Oban Kiyoshi 65 Stiff- didn't have 75X yet, but I've hit 75X before and killed it
  2. Players Championship TPC Sawgrass *spoiler*

    Posted 9 May 2013

looks like Tiger is back to the whiteboard in the driver. Saw some pics of him practicing with the DI and Whiteboard on the range the other day. Wondering if this will be a permanent replacement or not. he's hitting it well but also had a push fade a few holes back...
  3. I like my backup bag better than my main bag....

    Posted 21 Mar 2013

topic pretty much says it all. I live outside Seattle and my folks have a place in Tucson which I visit quite a bit, just get down and play golf pretty much. I run the family business so I can get away fairly easily. anyways, other than a few bits and pieces if I had to choose one bag to solely play with I would choose my backup bag. The thing that seals it for me is the irons. I got the R9TPs when they first came out and was fitted correctly for them. A year ago I had a couple hundred bucks on the books at my course so I figured I'd get fit and order the MC/MB combos. The fitting was the same so I was confident they would play the same. Long story short, the R9TPs I just prefer. Maybe it is because I am a high spin player and the MC/MB irons spin more than the R9s, I don't know. The build is exactly the same down to the grip. Anyone else have a vacation set they fall in love with again every time they play with it?
  4. Always pumped this time of year!! Will it last?

    Posted 7 Feb 2013

Pretty much every year about now I get really pumped for my season. I'm lucky to live in a climate that we can play all year for the most part... as long as you dont mind frozen tee boxes for a week or playing in the rain. I'm the president of our Men's Club (75ish members) so I've got the tournament schedule out, and already played the first of the year, 3 man shamble and we smoked the field at Net -31. We have 13 total (one every month plus a multi month match play).

So I've won one tournament already. I'm looking at the schedule and trying to figure out my chacnes at all of the different tourneys, half individual and half 2man/team. My goal this year is to get enough on the books to buy new irons again. I definitely have the positive juju in my blood right now I just hope I can keep it up! It's tough to get that low gross spot on the 2 day tournaments as I'm the second lowest handicap in the club at 6-7 and the low guy is our superintendent at +1, so beating him back to back days is next impossible. We did team up last year in a 2man... we ended up wining by 17 gross :) maybe that wasn't too fair?!
  5. ATV Wedge

    Posted 2 Oct 2012

I really like the xFt wedges and when I built my second bag to leave at my folks house in Tucson I thoguht I'd get new wedges and leave teh xFt's there. So I tried the SM4 50 and 54 and really liked them a lot. I had a 58 and 60 xFt so I kept playing the 58 until the ATV came out. Once it did the 58 went to Tucson and I've been gaming the ATV since it came out. I have a good short ame, chipping and pitching is a strong suit. I could do everything with my 58 xFt- low, high, bunker, full shot fairway- everything. Since I've gotten this ATV, with the same shaft as all my other clubs/wedges, I've never had a good feel for it. 85 yards on a perfect lie I'll skull it over the green or hit it fat. put the 54 SM4 in my hand and it's pure every time. greenside flops have no feel, I'll chunk it or thin it, but give me the higher bounce SM4 and it's fine. I'm so very close to completely giving up on this wedge which sucks since it's so new... has anyone else had this problem? I have to wonder if the swingweight is different and that is the problem or is it just that the ATV sole does not work for me? I can say if the ground is REALLY HARD and I have a full shot it is good, but if it's even remotely soft this thing digs like a shovel. I'm waiting for a 58* SM4 to fall in my lap but until it does I think I'll continue to loathe pulling this wedge from my bag :(

Saw your post re: US Senior Open at Sahalee. I was in the field and played the Wednesday practice round with Bob Gilder and Eduardo Romero!
